Brantford rolls over Cambridge, 8-3
The Brantford Golden Eagles were firing on all cylinders against the Cambridge Winter Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Golden Eagles emerged with an 8-3 win.
The win by Brantford broke a deadlock and gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.
Trent Hawke had one goal and two assists to lead Brantford. Hawke scored 13:46 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Brantford.
The Golden Eagles pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 31 penalty minutes.
Brantford forced Cambridge's netminders to work without much rest, getting 49 shots and forcing 41 saves. Brendan Gorecki made 35 stops and Lucas Machalski made six.
Brantford also got points from Tyler Norrie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Mike Riley, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Brandon Montour, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brantford also had goals scored by Mitch Brown, who had one and Jeff Swift, who had three. More assists for Brantford came via Dillan Walker, who had two and Nate Mitton and Mike Rebry, who contributed one a piece.
The Winter Hawks were helped by Cameron Pentsa, who grabbed one goal. Pentsa scored 9:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Brantford. Ryan Clarke provided the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Andrew Coupland, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Christian Barnard also scored for Cambridge.
Bryce O Hagan made 19 saves for the Golden Eagles on 22 shots. Brantford registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Golden Eagles, Tanner Rutland was ejected from the game. Cambridge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
